The Villa, Wine Making & History...
The exact origin of the estate (just one hour and a half from Rome) is unknown. however, existing records date the villa back to at least the 15th century.
The estate over the past few centuries was owned by the noble Abruzzese family the D'Alfonso. The family farmed over 300 h/a of adjacent vineyards, olive groves and terrain for corn. The estate lays claim to have been one of the earliest producers of grapes in this region of wines.
In more recent times, the last remaining family member, the contessa (countess) died without leaving an heir, subsequently much of the estate was left abandoned and had fallen into decay.
In 2006 the property was purchased by the Jenkins family, A British family whom renovated the Villa and updated and restored most of the vineyards. Wines are now reproduced in co-operation with a nearby off site vinification facility whilst works are in progress on a traditional winery reconstruction.
Location
Located in one of Italy's most beautiful landscapes, known to many as Europe's "little Tibet", our region is a land of fairy tail medieval castles and hillside fortified towns. The estate is situated between "The Maiella" and "Gran Sasso" national parks where such beauty unfortunately is subject to high levels of seismic risks. Being in the vicinity where two of the earths tectonic plates meet our mountainous region continues to see significant tremors and earthquakes that continues to define the regions landscapes and history by geology.
